John Loftus has become the new Chairman and CEO of the Angling Trades Association in the UK. Loftus, who has held senior positions with Daiwa, Shimano, Rapala and Maryuku – officially started his role on March 1 and attended his first Board meeting today.
His brief is to drive membership of the association and to strengthen its influence in the market.
“The ATA and the industry it represents are facing a big challenge. The market is getting smaller and the only way forward is for everyone to work together,” Loftus told Angling International.
“I will be focusing on convincing the trade that we can only achieve things by working towards a common goal, by getting them to see beyond their own individual brands and looking at the bigger picture.
“My first job is to get more companies on board by persuading them of the value of working as part of a strong trade body.”
Loftus, who first entered the industry in 1957, plans to go back to the Board in about two weeks time with an outline plan of how to take the association forward. His remuneration will be performance-related.
