EFTTA President Robin Morley talked of the threats facing the recreational fishing industry at the trade association’s Annual General Assembly.
The Daiwa UK Managing Director told delegates at the meeting that the industry was battling ‘threats from all over’, including pressure from the anti-angling lobby and moves to ban lead in fishing tackle. He said: “There are vitally important issues that we need to tackle and that is why we have to finance our lobby team to represent the interests of our industry.
“We need more recognition at the highest level in Brussels and that can only be achieved through lobbying.”
He added that the setting up of a new membership structure, which is being headed up by Jacques Prallet, has been introduced to take the pressure off EFTTEX as the major source of income for the association. “We cannot rely on it and have to look to increasing revenue from membership subscription.”
Morley also revealed that EFTTEX 2020 will be held in the Czech capital of Prague.
