This year’s International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) Show has been sold out for the first time ever, with 232 booths booked for the Orlando showpiece.
American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) President and show organiser Ben Bulis believes that the 2017 event will be even bigger.
“To my knowledge, IFTD has never completely sold out of inventory, though we have come very close in the last two years,” he told Angling International.
“It shows that the sales programme and terms we introduced back in 2014 have been extremely successful. I believe IFTD 2017 sales will be even stronger than this year. I’ll have a better grasp on that come August.”
For this year, Bulis is accepting contracts for a waiting list and has the option of relocating the IFTD’s press room from the show floor to a meeting room at the Orange County Convention Center, creating space for six more booths.
“I guess that will happen in the next few weeks, but I won’t make that change until I have four companies on the waiting list,” he explained.
The reaction to this July’s show is an indication that manufacturers see IFTD as an important opportunity for the growth of their brands. Another healthy indicator is that 14 new companies will exhibit at IFTD 2016, with two more potential debutants on the waiting list.
Bulis also has a message to dealers thinking about attending the Orlando show. “You owe it to yourself and your business to attend. I promise you won’t be disappointed,” he said.
*Four visitors attending this year’s IFTD will have their airfares and hotel accommodation paid for. The lucky retailers, drawn randomly from those who entered a recent AFFTA survey, are: Mossy’s Fly Shop, Anchorage, Alaska; Bob Marriott’s, Fullerton, California; World Cast Anglers, Victor, Idaho; and Ole Florida Fly Shop, Boca Raton, Florida. The Ole Florida Fly Shop is the only one of the four to have been to the show before this year.
