Hardy Zenith One-Piece causing a sensation in the USA
Hardy North America had its usual strong presence at last week’s IFTD show in New Orleans and the company’s booth on the casting pond was a popular destination for buyers and media.
Hardy took a range of new products to New Orleans, including the Fortuna X fly reel, the Ultralite DD fly reel, the Ultralite CC fly reel and Greys XF2 Saltwater fly rod. But when put on the spot to nominate his company’s jewel in the crown, President Jim Murphy had little hesitation in plumping for the Zenith One-Piece rod.
“It provides precision, distance and a reserve power we haven’t seen before,” he enthused. “It enables anglers to do things they have never done before.
“We have had 20 guides testing the rods for six weeks and they didn’t want to send them back. We had sold 700 pieces before anyone had seen it.”
Andy Mill, renowned angler and product developer, endorsed Murphy’s comments, telling Angling international: “The One-Piece is a commitment to the industry. A lot of anglers don’t travel to fish and for them the one-piece is perfect. The high end guys will have both a one-piece and a four-piece.”
The range of four 8ft 10in rods is for line weights four to seven. They are are built with Hardy’s proprietary Sintrix material and are, says the company, the lightest and strongest fly rods ever made.
