Iconic UK lure brand Eddystone to take on US market

One of the UK’s most iconic lure brands is set to make its debut at the world’s largest fishing tackle trade show next month.

And one of the reasons for its optimism of breaking into the US markets is a competition in Martha’s Vineyard that included the former US President, Bill Clinton. Eddystone Eels MD David Beer explained: “In 1984 I fished in a competition that featured the then-to-be US President. The lure – and the way it was fished – beat the rest of the field.”

He told Angling International at EFTTEX: “I knew then that we had a bait that could be a winner in the US.”

Eddystone Eels has had a number of distributors in the US for the range since, but will be attending ICAST for the first time in its attempt to break into the market for real. The Plymouth, Devon-based company will also be showing off the Tatler reel portfolio and Delta range of lures.

“This is a huge opportunity for us to get into the US market,” added Beer. “Attending ICAST will give us a chance to get our name out there and we are looking forward to showing our products to a new audience.”
