ICAST launch: the all-new Ardent Edge reel
Ardent, the US manufacturer of reels and reel care products, unveiled the Ardent Edge, a new freshwater baitcasting reel with Drag Tracking Technology (DTT), at last week’s ICAST show.
Company President and CEO Michael J. Brooks explained that DTT allows the level-wind on the reel to track in parallel with the location of the line as it leaves the spool in drag mode.
“This is a true innovation,” enthused Brooks when he spoke with Angling International in the Las Vegas Convention Center. “On all other brands and models of baitcast reels the level-wind is stationary and produces sharp line angles and variances in drag pressure that can cause line breakage when fighting fish.
“The benefit to anglers of DTT is a greatly reduced chance of losing fish for this reason.”
The Edge, like other Ardent reels, is made in the USA. Visitors to Ardent’s booth at ICAST were able to get a close up demonstration of DTT in action.
