ICAST launch: Okuma prepares a path for Savage Gear lures in the USA
Savage Gear will arrive at ICAST in July with eight of its most popular lures together with its strongest strategy yet for distributing them throughout the USA. Owner of the brand Svendsen Sport plans to take advantage of the sales network of its Stateside partner, Okuma USA, to deliver Savage Gear lures more efficiently across the country.
“We have a solid distribution network and sales channels all in place,” says Savage Gear Product Manager Mads Grosell, who will be in Las Vegas to introduce the lures to ICAST buyers.
Douglas Lasko, President of Okuma Fishing Tackle US, said: “Okuma USA has worked with Lars Svendsen and Svendsen Sport for nearly 20 years and have developed a great working relationship.
“We are extremely excited to be able to work with Svendsen on these lures and feel the market is right to bring in high quality, stand alone products that will catch fish and give our customers the margins they need.”
Key to Savage Gear’s strategy at ICAST in Las Vegas next month will be the New Product Showcase. As part of a huge effort to capture the imaginations of US retailers and media at the show, Savage Gear will enter no less than eight of its most popular lures into the competition.
Leading the way will be the Savage Gear Soft 4Play range of soft lures. This exciting range features the giant-sized Soft 4Play 25cm, winner of the Best New Soft Lure Award at EFTTEX earlier this month.
Savage Gear will also be entering its Savage Larvea 55 SS. This ‘super natural’ imitation of a dragonfly larvae swims with an erratic s-curve and features a noisy ceramic glass rattle. It came close to winning the Best New Hard Lure category in Amsterdam, finishing second and highly commended by the judges.
Also entered into the Product Showcase will be Savage Gear Sandeel lures, known for their ultra-realistic swimming action and appearance. Meanwhile the Savage Gear Sandeel Slug offers versatile rigging options: on the jighead for a superb darting action; on an offset weedless hook with an adjustable weight for great twitch and jerk action; and on a drop shot for what Savage Gear calls ‘superior nervous and lifelike action’.
Also being prepared for the show are the Savage Gear Cutbait Herring, which is available in eight colours; the 4Play Swim and Jerk, which is a three-jointed ‘super natural’ swimbait; the Play Liplure, which has a ‘flashing, erratic action’; and the 4Play 10-inch Swimbait with its wide, seducing s-curve action.
John Bretza, Director of Product Development at Okuma, added: “The extremely lifelike freshwater and saltwater colours and actions of the Savage Gear lure range add to the dynamic personality of our Okuma brand. We are excited to get on the water, tournament fish and chase records with the new US line of Savage Gear lures.”
