The Fin-Wing, a new lure from the Keweenaw Tackle Company, combines Scandinavian expertise with made-in-America production.
The lure, which debuted at last month’s ICAST, is the brainchild of Finnish-American inventors, Sigurd Bekkala and his son Harold, living in Michigan’s upper peninsula.
Not satisfied with other lures available, the pair developed the flashing spoon over years of trial and modification under the guidance of third generation of the Bekkala family, Michael.
“The Fin-Wing’s compound curves produce a unique motion in the water,” says Keweenaw President, Dale Elliott. “It also works with compatible soft plastics, which greatly increases its versatility and effectiveness.
“It can be cast, trolled, used on a downrigger, jigged and dropped as a countdown lure. It’s a case of using the imagination to find the right method.”
The Fin-Wing is fitted with two hooks, a treble and a ‘J’ hook, and 3D eyes. A combination of metals and coatings are used to provide a bright, durable finish. “More flash equals more fish is the best way to describe Fin-Wing,” adds Elliott.
The lure is available in three sizes 1/4oz, 3/4oz and 1oz, and 12 colour patterns to cover a wide variety of both freshwater and saltwater species. It is packaged in a clam-shell package for retail.
