ICAST is just a day away, but if you are still undecided about whether to attend the world’s largest recreational fishing trade show or not, it is worth listening to industry stalwart and retailer Dave Kranz.
He is unequivocal. The owner of Crystal Lake, Illinois-based Dave’s Bait & Tackle told Angling International: “Going to ICAST is the most important thing that I do for my business. You are not going to be successful – or as successful – if you don’t attend.”
Kranz has been attending ICAST since 1991 and he still feels a sense of excitement as the show looms closer. “It is a great event to be involved with on so many levels.”
Like many of the retailers who will go through the door at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando, Florida, this week, Kranz will first head straight to the New Product Showcase booth.
“It is great to be among the first to see the new products and steal a march on those retailers who do not attend and who only get to see them at distributor shows later in the year.
“There are many examples where we have picked up products that have done very well for us at ICAST. Last year we saw the Daiwa Bass X series of rods and did well with them. The company has come back to be really aggressive and we picked up that vibe by attending the show.”
Kranz added that retailers have become increasingly influential in shaping the new products of the future as ICAST gives them an opportunity to sit down with manufacturers and discuss feedback from their customers. “They are listening to us and our conversations help decide what products we need. Being able to do that at ICAST is invaluable.”
