Following the rapid growth of the Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) market, Freedom Hawk has partnered with VEC Surfboards to design the first-ever paddleboard for stand up fishing.
“Based on the SUP craze, dealers have been pushing us to design an SUP which would be stable enough to fish from, yet also cruise the shallows on fishless days for a combination of execise and fun They wanted the weight to be in the 30 pound range but still durable enough to handle the torture of a day fishing on the water. said Freedom Hawk President, David Hadden.
“After 16 months of prototyping and testing SUP designs, we feel we have designed a fishing SUP with the right combination of stability and efficiency. This is not going to be as stable as our patented Freedom Hawk kayaks, but for customers wanting to fish standing up we believe we have engineered the perfect blend.”
Hadden added: “While there are SUP’s being marketed to fishermen, this board is the first one designed from the skeg up specially for kayak fishing.”
Freedom Hawk’s partner in the SUP sector is VEC Surfboards of Orleans in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. “We know surfboards and the SUP culture and marketplace, but we are not hardcore fishermen,” said VEC President, Shawn Vecchione.
“The partnership with Freedom Hawk is perfect because they are as passionate about fishing as we are surf.”
