European fly fishing brand Guideline has expanded its distribution deal with the US wading boot manufacturer, Korkers, to include the UK.
Guideline already handles the distribution for Korkers in all the Scandinavian countries, except Iceland, following an agreement reached almost a year ago.
The Swedish company took on responsibility for the UK in January and Korkers products are expected to be available in the shops from March.
“The main British retailers have placed pre-season orders for 2015,” confirmed Guideline’s Sales Director, Stein Thorvaldsen. “Deliveries will go to the shops from our central warehouse in Gothenburg.
“We believe Korkers has great potential in the UK due to the large numbers of high-standard fly fishermen. Our expectation is also based on our experience in the Norwegian market, which is not unlike the UK. Customers in both countries buy large numbers of quality products.”
Sales in the UK will be handled by Lawrie Hickman and newly-appointed sales rep Jim Curry. Four different models of Korkers will be available – the K-5 Bomber, Devil’s Canyon, Whitehorse and Buckskin – which, like the other boots in the company’s range, have inter-changeable outsoles.
“This means the consumer doesn’t have to make the difficult choice between rubber soles or felt soles,” said Thorvaldsen. “Korkers come with both soles so they effectively get two boots in one. Customers can also buy studded rubber soles and studded felt soles as extras.”
Korkers CEO Brian Chaney said that his company’s export growth strategy would not stop at the UK. He is also seeking partners in France, Italy, South Africa and Korea. “We are looking to grow our overseas presence significantly,” said Chaney.
