Gill gets serious in bass market

Gill, the weatherproof clothing company best known in the sailing industry, tested the water in the bass market a few years ago. But now it has made a more serious pitch with its FG2 Tournament Series wear.
To underline its intentions the US company signed top pro staff including Dean Rojas, Jason Christie, Russ Lane and Jared Lintner to advise on design and put the new products through their paces.
The cornerstone of the range is the FG2 jacket, especially tailored for professional and avid tournament bass fishermen. Headlining the jacket’s impressive list of foul-weather features is Gill’s VortexHood.
Wind getting inside a hood, especially at high boat speeds, can be uncomfortable by putting pressure on the head and neck. But weatherproof ports inside the FG2’s hood eliminate this by channeling air through the hood and collar.
Made from two-layer coated fabric, the FG2 jacket has a protective shell that is ‘incredible waterproof’, as well as windproof and breathable.
All seams are taped and there are retractable outer cuffs with inner seals to keep out water. YKK zippers with double storm flaps do the same job.
Storage needs are well provided for by a series of deep cargo pockets, hand pockets and an inside security pocket. Waist adjustment is also provided, along with two D-ring attachment points.
First introduced to the trade at last year’s ICAST, Gill has also provided matching bib pants for the jacket. These feature articulated joints for easy movement and are reinforced at the knees and rear where most wear tends to occur. Both the pockets and collar are fleece lined.
