Following the successful inaugural event in Holland last year, the second Hobie Fishing European Championship will be held in France from September 11th to 13th.
And as an additional incentive to competitors, the tournament will be a qualifier for the fifth Hobie Worlds event (HFW5) in China.
Europe’s best kayak anglers will compete on Lac de Lacanau, near Bordeaux, in the Medoc province, a freshwater venue where they will be fishing for pike, perch and zander. All competitors will use their own Hobie Mirage kayaks.
The championship is supported by Lowrance & Gofree. “We are delighted that Lowrance & Gofree has decided to team up with us for the next three years,” said Gero Priebe, Fishing Marketing Manager at Hobie Kayak Europe. “We are looking forward to a strong partnership.”
Priebe also thanked Rapala and Shimano, who have continued their support of the event, and organising partner, Savager.
“France is a good destination for our second European Championship,” said Richard Barth, Director of Hobie Kayak Europe. “Kayak fishing has been hot there for quite a few years.”
Qualification for the American team that will compete in HFW5 gets underway at the end of May. A series of four qualifying events will determine five vacant spots on Team North America, with these anglers being joined by 2014 Hobie Fishing World Champion, Steve Lessard, and 2014 IFA Champion, Benton Parrott, making up the seven-strong side.
Venues and dates are: Jamaica Bay, New York ((May 15-18), Kentucky Lake (May 29-31), Border City, Ontario (June 28) and Georgetown, South Carolina (August 30).
HFW5 is being held on China’s Shang Lake, in Changshu, from November 9th to 16th. As previously announced in Angling International, the event will be hosted by Hobie Cat Australasia and presented by Rhino-Rack. Anglers from more than 20 countries will take part.
