Former Mustad Americas stalwart Jeff Pierce has joined Scientific Anglers to spearhead its sales drive outside the US.
Pierce, a veteran of 15 years with the Norwegian hook manufacturer, has been appointed Foreign and OEM Sales Manager for SA, which was acquired by Orvis last year from 3M.
Most recently Sales & Portfolio Manager – North America Global Sourcing & Product Development Manager at Mustad, Pierce left the company in August last year. He told Angling International: “After leaving a few opportunities popped up in both the fishing and hunting businesses.
“However, when I got the call from SA it had my full attention and focus. I’ve been a hardcore fly angler for over 30 years and during that time have fished with its lines.
“To be able to slide into the fly fishing business full-time for a powerhouse like SA is as good as it gets.”
Pierce added that he has been brought on board to manage two critically important parts of the business. “I will be handling all sales of SA products outside the US. There are dealers and distributors spread all over the world and with Orvis’s acquisition of SA there is a renewed commitment to build the brand and customers across the globe will see improved service and support.
“Another part of the SA business is the production of high quality custom fly lines. We have customers around the world purchasing SA lines, leaders and tippets and marketing them under their own brands. I will also be responsible for this.
“When Orvis purchased SA, it really took its time analysing the business to see what was working and what wasn’t. There is a highly skilled core group and Orvis has built on that to make it even better.
“It has crafted a fantastic team in Midland, Michigan, with a tremendous amount of experience to draw from.”
