North America’s popular Fly Fishing Show series is on a charm offensive to attract women.
The organisers of the shows are looking to tap into the growth of female participation by setting up a Women’s Fly Fishing Showcase, a dedicated section that will provide women with an area for specific presentations, discussions and networking.
Next year the Showcase will debut at the Somerset and Denver events.
The Fly Fishing Shows Showcase Coordinator, Brooke Furimsky, said: “While we have always hosted plenty of female guides, experts, pro-casters and fly tyers, we recognise the need to bring more women into the sport.
“The entire industry is moving in that direction and we want to show our support for this developing trend. As well as attracting more women to the show, we also want to provide a welcoming atmosphere for those who are new to the sport. We will also help our Showcase sponsors promote their women-specific gear and fishing opportunities as well.”
Presentations will cover the basics of fly fishing, including gear, techniques and etiquette, plus fly tying for beginners and information on the history of women in the sport as well advice on destinations.
Dates for the 2015 shows are:
