One of Australia’s best known recreational angling journalists is hanging up his pen to pursue a new career in fisheries management.
After 20 years and more than 240 editions, Fishing World Editor and Publisher Jim Harnwell will be leaving to take up a role in the recreational fisheries department of NSW Fisheries.
Harnwell, a Board member of the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA), will leave YAFFA Publishing when the January issue of Fishing World has been published. The magazine’s Scott Thomas has been appointed Editor, with Chris Yu moving into the position of Publisher.
Thomas said Harnwell’s professional approach to publishing has left the brand in great shape. “With a fresh team and rapidly changing fishing media, we’re presented with a tremendous opportunity to continue and improve on what is already Australia’s leading sportfishing media brand.”
Harnwell added: “Both Scott and Chris will doubtless be able to continue the legacy established by Fisho founder, Ron Calcutt, while also adding their own ideas and initiatives.
“It was a big decision to leave, but I would rather go still loving the job as opposed to hanging on and perhaps not enjoying it as much five or ten years down the track. I’ve had a great time for the past two decades – been to some wild places, caught a stack of amazing fish and met some fantastic people. All in all I have been a lucky fella.”
