New pictures: first look at Dunlop’s entry level tackle

Iconic sports brand Dunlop insists its first move into the fishing market will be ‘a good thing for angling’. The brand, which is best known internationally for making equipment for tennis, golf and squash, says it is targeting the UK angling market with its new range but has plans to sell fishing tackle around the world.

In an exclusive interview in the upcoming December issue of Angling International, Dunlop Product Manager Nick Fox has revealed that the first launches will be aimed at the value end of the market, with a ‘second phase’ of development planned that will see the introduction of more cutting-edge, technical products.

Dunlop will be selling in the UK online and via retail giant Sports Direct as well as specialist angling retailers, which Fox insists will help make the sport accessible to a fresh audience.

“The initial range will target the entry level angler looking for high quality product at a reasonable price and we believe that can only help the sport as a whole,” he said. “If our unrivalled store portfolio and online capabilities help make fishing accessible to an even wider audience, that can only be a good thing.”

Dunlop says it will focus its first product ranges on the coarse market with sea and game firmly on the agenda for the near future.
