Costa has gone rimless with three new styles for its Galveston, Rockport and Seadrift sunglasses.

The Daytona Beach, Florida, company says: “These sleek, sporty styles are unique, with full eye coverage and lightweight fit, without compromising durability.”

The Galveston features large square-shaped lenses for optimal coverage on the water, while Rockport offers thicker, wider temples to block light from entering on the sides. The smaller, super lightweight Seadrift is ideal for high impact, velocity sports where speed is key.

All three styles feature adjustable no-slip Hydrolite™ nose pads and Costa’s signature nylon co-injected temple tips for ‘forget-they’re-on’ fit and durability. Each is available in Costa’s 580P™ 100% polarised lens technology, which blocks yellow light from entering the eye, creating razor sharp colour enhancement and eliminating glare.

The styles’ colour combinations include tortoise frames with copper or silver mirror lenses, or black or silver frames with gray or blue mirror lenses. They retail from $169 to $189, depending on lens selection.

“You’ve seen rimless sunglass styles before, but not with the level of engineering ingenuity placed in these new Costas,” said Chas MacDonald, President of Costa Sunglasses. “Even though they’re so lightweight, you’ll be amazed at the strength these frames have to offer.”

The company says: “Whether you are looking for a standard screw cap for bottled flavourings and attractants, dropper caps for additives and lubricants or a more functional gel or spray pump for bait activators and sink/float sprays, we have a large variety of closures available from stock.

The new spool from the St Paul, Minnesota, company features an independent free-wheeling hub that allows the tippet spool to spin freely when joined together.

The hub can be retracted to become flush with the body spool when used alone, or with other tippet spools on the market.

Each of the spools are colour-coded to correspond to the type of tippet material – green for freshwater, blue for saltwater and orange for fluorocarbon.

The spools are also moulded with UV inhibitors to protect the tippet from degenerating UV rays. Built into the spool rim is a razor to cut the material right where you want it.

The tippet material is managed by a colour-coded tippet retainer band that also has the size of the material printed on it.

Scientific Anglers says it is also giving anglers more of its award winning material by increasing the spool material to 30 metres – approximately 9% more than its competitors.

The new tippet will be launched in four separate waves:

Nylon OX-8X this month;

Fluorocarbon in OX-7X in June;

Saltwater in 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 and 30 in July;

Freshwater nylon and fluorocarbon in 14, 16, 20, 22, 25, 30, 35 and 40 in August.

And on its return to EFTTEX after a decade, Eddystone Tatler is launching the Eddystone 2012 version that inventor and company owner, David Beer, believes can emulate the Eddystone 2010 that picked up Best New Lure at the show in 2002.

He says: “The action is so good when it swims through the water I can’t believe it myself. On shore tests it has taken an 11lb bass, 12lb cod, 5lb ballan wrasse and a 3lb whiting.

“It was just as effective from the boat, accounting for a 20lb cod and 19lb pollack.

EFTTEX newcomer J:son Sweden will be introducing its unique collection of realistic fishing flies to a wider audience in Paris.

The company says that its goal at the exhibition is to attract as many distributors as possible.

Its Marketing and Media Manager, Anders Uvberg, says: “We want to introduce our products to a wider audience in Europe. J:sonFlies are the first complete collection of natural-looking, durable and effective flies. All the patterns are created in Sweden with our own tools and materials.

“They are designed based on a unique combination of realism, durability and functionality.”

Proof comes in this short, stylish and witty video devised by the J:son team to communicate exactly how life-life and hardy their creations are. The message? You can barely tell these J:son flies from the real things.

“Our J:son dry flies have realistic wings that contain air, which together with extended foam bodies make them virtually unsinkable, leaving a natural impression on the surface,” adds Uvberg.

“The J:son nymphs are soft and flexible, with lifelike silhouettes that replicate real insects in the water.”

Altogether, the company offers six different patterns in various sizes and colours, making a total of 70 different flies. Visitors to Paris can find out more at booth E15 or by emailing Sales Manager Mikael Levinson.

The Black Minnow lure, which will be at EFTTEX in Paris courtesy of new French tackle manufacturer Fiiish, is an innovative fish catcher developed around three distinct features.

The first is its hidden Krog® hook which is designed to be perfect for bottom fishing without clinging. Second is the patented PH2S® system, which allows the head to be connected to the body using a simply manoeuvre. And thirdly there is the extra-soft plastic body for a more natural swimming action.

This video released in time for EFTTEX shows perfectly how the Black Minnow can be assembled before fishing.

Despite the French commentary, English speakers will have no difficulty following the step-by-step guide and gaining an early understanding of how the various components work together to create an irresistible lure.

The first step is to fit the jighead onto the body using the attachment system and a dab of glue between the two parts. The hook is then fitted through the ultra-flexible body. A quick check, then you are done.

The developers at Fiiish say the Black Minnow is ideal for fishing from the shore and from a boat. They will be coming to EFTTEX for the first time as they step up their search for international distributors.

Eumer’s SpinTubes caused a stir at EFTTEX 2011 in Amsterdam and clearly excited the trade there – they were voted the winners of the Visitors’ Choice Award at the show.

“EFTTEX visitors are always looking for something new,” says Eumer’s International Sales Manager Olli Ojamo ahead of this year’s EFTTEX in Paris. “And what we had was really new and unique. Visitors to our stand told us that people have tried everything but not fly fishing with a spinning rod. They liked this new idea and they wanted try it.

“We’ve been in the fly fishing business for years and fishing with a fly rod for over 20 years,” he continues. “We’ve noticed that 95% of anglers spin fish and only 5% fly fish. Everyone knows how well flies can catch fish, so we wanted to make a weighted tube fly that was easy to cast with any spinning rod. Now 100% of anglers have the opportunity to fish with a fly without using a fly rod.”

In this video Olli demonstrates how effective SpinTubes can be. It was made at Sweden’s Sportfiskemässan show in March. Adds Olli: “We were there with our distributor Fly Dressing AB. We had three dealers selling SpinTubes and all of them were happy. We did two demos per day over the three days so that visitors could see how good SpinTubes look in action underwater.”

The next stop is EFTTEX in Paris at the beginning of June, where an enlarged SpinTube range will be introduced. “We will be looking for yet more positive reaction when we reach Paris in June,” says Olli.

For the full story of Eumer’s plans for EFTTEX 2012, see the EFTTEX Preview issue of Angling International.

ABT Lures says it is taking the umbrella rig to the next level.

The Oakhurst, California, company explains that its ABT Multi-Rig System lets the angler make modifications and adjustments that allow for a multitude of configurations to fit varying fishing conditions and state regulations.

“The unique design of the system makes it superior to other umbrella rigs,” says ABT. “Thanks to our patented screw lock swimming head and removable wire harness, it’s easy to change wire configurations – from as few as two to a maximum of six.

“With the optional ABT Multi-Rig Accessory Kit, you can even switch wire lengths from 3.5” to 10” to suit the fishing situation. No other umbrella rig allows for this kind of versatility or customisation.”

ABT Lures adds that the lead head offers distinct advantages over ordinary rigs. Available in six colours, the polycarbonate head features a barbed bait keeper, making it easier to attach and match swimbaits.

The head is hollow allowing the angler to insert nail weights to make the rig run deeper in the water column.

A variety of accessory kits include buzzbait, spinnerbait and fixed weightless ‘teaser’ wires that allow you to further customise presentation.

Every ABT Multi-Rig comes standard with four 5.5” and one 6.5” .047 stainless steel wires – strong and rugged enough for throwing larger, heavier baits and battling big, hard-fighting game fish.

ABT adds that its wires are also more rigid to avoid getting tangled up with each other.

Allen Borden, former Strike King lure designer, and now President/Founder of ABT Lure Company, says the new system ushers in a new era of umbrella rig performance. “In all respects, we have built a better mousetrap,” he says.

“Nothing out there comes close to offering the versatility, durability and functionality that our new Multi-Rig brings to the water.”

FLW touring pro, Charley Almassey, agrees. “As soon as I began using my ABT rig, I started winning tournaments. I have fished with others out there and not one puts fish in the livewell or gives you the flexibility to adapt quickly and easily to changing conditions or regulations as the ABT Multi-System Rig. Quite simply, it’s the ultimate umbrella rig.”
