Farlows, one of the world’s oldest tackle retailers, has branched out into the destination fishing travel business, offering anglers the opportunity to fish what it describes as some of the best destinations on the planet.
Its owner and President, Vladimir Rybalchenko, has formed Farlows Travel which will become a one-stop shop, delivering to its customers a sporting experience of a lifetime. Headed by Rod Hall, an experienced angler who has spent over 20 years organising travel to destinations across the globe, the new business will operate out of the company’s existing retail outlet in Pall Mall, London.
Hall told Angling International that the new venture was an ‘absolute fit’ for the main Farlows business which has been in operation for over 175 years. “A lot of our customers are international anglers who come into our store to buy equipment for their next trip.
“Destination fishing is big business now and Farlows is in the perfect position to take advantage of it. Having our own retail facility means we can interface with our customers during the planning of their trip, something our rivals cannot do. They do not have somewhere central where potential customers can come and chat. Fishermen are now traveling, but the excursions on offer can be confusing – dissecting them face-to-face is so much easier than on the end of a telephone.”
Extra to the business is the ability of Farlows to advise on and ultimately supply the tackle and clothing needed for the trip. “The shop is a real resource for us – and again no other travel company has that,” added Hall.
On launch day, the Farlows Travel website went live, listing a comprehensive choice of destinations including English chalkstreams, the Atlantic Salmon Reserve in Russia and bonefish in the Bahamas. “The experience for anglers ranges from exceptional to unbelievable,” added Hall.
