The American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) ultimate award was among the talking points at its Summit last week at Clearwater Beach, Florida.
The ASA also announced a new man at the helm for the Association. Industry Relations Vice President Glenn Hughes was confirmed as President on the eve of the Summit. He will take over from Mike Nussman, who will retire as President and CEO at the end of March next year.
The Summit brought together more than 220 fishing and boating representatives, including 60 who were attending the event for the first time.
During the event, the ASA’s most prestigious accolade – Lifetime Achievement Award – was presented to long-time association member and President of AFTCO Manufacturing Company, Bill Shedd, for his ‘extraordinary leadership and lifelong commitment to recreational fishing and sportfishing industry’.
Two other people were also recognised for their achievements. The ASA’s Future of Fishing Award was presented to Kenneth S. Hammond, CEO of the Hammond Group, for his commitment to recreational fishing’s future through growing participation in the sport and his leadership in the industry’s trade association.
The ASA also presented a Conservation Champion Award to Thomas Fote, Legislative Chairman of the Jersey Coast Anglers Association, for his lifelong commitment to fisheries conservation and recreational fishing’s future.
The 2018 Sportfishing Summit is scheduled for October 9th to 12th at the Wild Dunes Resort, in Charleston, South Carolina.
