The Middle East is the latest target for the world’s largest sporting goods retailer.
French-based Decathlon – owner of the Caperlan fishing brand – is set to open its first store in Israel next month.
It is the third international sports store to enter the country, following Foot Locker and Intersport. It will be based in Rishon LeZion, Israel’s fourth largest city which is located just 8km from the capital, Tel Aviv.
Founded in 1976, Decathlon currently has 78,000 employees in over 1,220 stores in 32 countries.
The company is also reported to be returning to the North American market following an unsuccessful attempt more than a decade ago. It shut down its business there seven years ago.
Decathlon confirmed on its USA Facebook page that it is opening a store in San Francisco. On its website it also said that it would be rolling out online sales in California soon.
