Custom Jigs and Spins has introduced a new product line it believes will meet the demand for high quality, fast-sinking tungsten jigs at an affordable price.
The 100% tungsten Majmun (pronounced my-moon) and Chekai (check-eye) jigs make tungsten – one of the heaviest of alloys – available to all anglers and not just the pros prepared to pay higher prices.
The jigs have been developed with the help of renowned Croatian ice fisherman, Chekain Matan, and use top quality components, including Owner hooks.
The compact Majmun has terrific hooking power, says the Iowa manufacturer, and is best used with finesse plastic like a Wedgee tail and fished with a sharp, rapid-fire jigging motion. The heavy, round ball head is mounted offset for fast sinking, allowing for a wide gap hook.
Available in 10 colours, including two ‘glow’ colours for low light conditions, and four sizes from 16 to 10, the Majmun is particularly recommended for big panfish in difficult conditions.
The Chekai has large eyes and smooth, rounded sides, offering a rapid rate of fall and a precise jigging action. Its larger silhouette shows up well on sonar, even in deep water. Again, the weight is positioned on the back of the hook for better hook sets.
Also recommended as an effective panfish lure, the Chekai comes in 12 colour combinations, six of them ‘glow’ colours, and four sizes from 16 to 10.
“The Majmun is my go-to jig whether fish are in a finicky mood and want a lure with a tiny silhouette—which is when most anglers tend to use them—or when they are feeding fast and furiously and are on the move,” says Custom Jigs & Spins pro-staffer, Travis Krousie. “And the Chekai is my number-one choice when a little larger profile is what the fish prefer.
“The extra weight of both tungsten bodies allows me to get these jigs down fast, which is especially critical when schools are on the go. I have greater control of the bait and can ‘feel’ the lure through the line and rod tip and know the millisecond it gets taken.”
