For an astonishing second year running, John Cox has reigned supreme in the American Tackle FlipOff Challenge, beating some of the best anglers in the world.
This year’s event drew hundreds of onlookers who blocked all the aisles around the American Tackle booth at ICAST last week.
The event was held during the annual Wave Army Reception where over 30 MicroWave guide rods were given away by American Tackle along with dozens of pairs of Costa sunglasses, a Kula and a complete paddle board set from ICAST Best in Show winner, Bote.
Bryan Thrift and former Bassmaster Classic champion Boyd Duckett kicked off the 16-angler eliminator that also included David Dudley, Trevor Fitzgerald, Brandon Medlock, Dewayne French, Andrew Young, Justin Smith, Andrew Upshaw, Rob Lever, Brad Knight, Brian Latimer, John Cox, John Murray, Garret Rocamora and Dean Rojas.
The final saw Dudley go head-to-head against Cox in a nailbiter that produced bullseye after bullseye in a virtual repeat of last year’s final between Cox and Aaron Martens.
However, Cox edged ahead in the final seconds to notch up an amazing second win and take the prestigious prize.
American Tackle Vice President and Partner Darrin Heim said: “John pulled off an incredible win against FLW champions, Elite Anglers, Bassmaster Classic champions and Angler of the Year winners on the biggest stage in fishing – ICAST 2017.
“With a huge crowd watching and cheering just feet away, he held it together to pull off a big win. Congratulations.
“Thank you to all the participating anglers and their brands – and a huge thank you to the event sponsors, Costa Sunglasses, Bote and Bob’s Machine Shop.”
