A Chinese angler has been crowned 2015 Hobie Worlds Champion, securing victory for the home nation after a dramatic last day on Shang Lake in Changshu.
After three days of tough fishing, Ma Xiaohong hauled a massive 115cm yellow cheek carp aboard his kayak to snatch victory from team-mate Li Haiyang, who had led for the first two days.
Presented by Rhino-Rack and supported by high profile brands including Daiwa, Lowrance and Power-Pole, the 5th Hobie Worlds saw 45 of the world’s best kayak anglers competing aboard Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayaks on the ‘lake of a thousand casts’.
Although large numbers of fish had been seen beforehand, the lake produced only nine fish during the three days of competition. Danish angler Finn Sloth Hansen claimed third place for Europe with a 90cm top mouth cutter, also caught on the last day.
It is the first time the event has been held in China, following competitions in the US, Australia and Europe.
