Old Town Canoes and Kayaks built its first wood and canvas canoe in 1898, Now, more than 100 years later but with the same spirit of innovation, the Australian company has launched its latest kayak – the Camden 106 Angler.
The Brisbane manufacturer has incorporated smooth lines, a proven design and some clever features that it believes will deliver a superior on-the-water experience.
It describes the Camden106 Angler as a stable, comfortable, easy gliding watercraft built for the touring fisherman and discriminating paddler.
The kayak features a front-mount Cannon® rod holder and two inclined rear flush mount rod holders, allowing for multiple rods to be accessed easily from a seated position, as well as giving the angler the option to leave them rigged for trolling.
The kayak also has a paddle holder and a corded anchor system, which deploys from a seated position. Other features include a smartly designed dashboard engineered for extra storage. The dashboard includes mounting areas for GPS or rod holders, a rubberised cup holder and a four-inch dry hatch for secure storage of smaller valuables like wallets, keys or mobile phones.
Additionally, the Camden 106 Angler incorporates the comfortable new Active Comfort System (ACS) seat, which has an intuitive adjustment system, three-layer polyethylene construction for optimal support and an enhanced seating surface for airflow and drainage.
The four-way adjustable seat tailors to individual back-rest height, thigh and lumbar support and back-rest angle to provide a customised ride. ACS thigh pads and adjustable foot pegs add increased manoeuvrability and control .
Additional innovations include a distinctive new Click SealTM hatch system with bulkhead. Old Town explains that this unique stern hatch is hinged for easy access and has a superior seal designed to keep gear dry.
The Camden 106 Angler also features a forward-thinking bungee system intended to provide paddlers with a variety of on-deck storage options. All these impressive features are packed into a kayak that weighs only 23kg, so loading it on to roof racks shouldn’t be a problem.
The Camden 106 Angler is 3.2m long, 0.73m wide and has a carrying capacity of 158kg.
