EFTTA President Pierangelo Zanetta is stepping down as Managing Director of Shimano Europe Fishing Holding.
He will be replaced by Cor Ax, who joined the fishing giant from outside the industry in May as International Sales Director. The move will come into force from January 1 next year and will see Zanetta take up a new position of Communications Director where he will become spokesman on behalf of the company. He will remain President of EFTTA, board member of Joint Ventures with Rapala and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shimano Normark UK.
Marc van Rooij, President of Shimano Europe Holding, said: “As Pier is achieving the honourable age of 60 in April and having led the company for over a decade, we need to consider the developments for the next 10 years which are extremely challenging in terms of maintaining the current market position and to look for new opportunities to grow our sales potential and market shares.
“I believe the changes will be to the biggest benefit of the company as both gentlemen use their expertise and experience in their specialist areas.”
Ax said: “Taking over responsibility from Pierangelo is a great challenge as he has built a healthy and sound organisation. The challenge in these market conditions is big, but with with the team members we have I am convinced we are ready for the next decade.”
Zanetta added: “I feel very positive about this change because at my age I need a more stable life. I leave a healthy company in the hands of a reliable manager who will continue the development of Shimano in Europe. I will still follow the fortunes of Shimano Europe and contribute to it to the benefit of the company through my experience.”
