Rapala VMC Corporation has confirmed that it will be exhibiting at this year’s EFTTEX, but Westin, the Danish tackle company, has announced that it will not be at the European trade’s showcase event in Amsterdam.
Rapala’s decision to attend is good news for the show following the decisions of Shimano, Zebco Europe and Leeda not to re-book for Amsterdam. With Pure Fishing and Daiwa also present, it means that three of the world’s ‘big four’ will be at the show.
The giant lure manufacturer had deferred its decision to be in Amsterdam, but told Angling International this week, ‘we will be there’.
“We are giving some thought to a concept to find bigger leverage at the show,” said Rapala President and CEO Jussi Ristimaki.
The presence of Rapala is not the only encouraging news for EFTTEX 2018. A number of companies are also returning as exhibitors after periods of absence.
Sonik Sports UK is back for the first time since 2012 and both RIVE France and Meiho from Japan return after four-year gaps. Frenchtouch Fishing, which last exhibited in 2014, will also be there.
In addition, there are six first time exhibitors from Europe and a further six from Korea, USA and Singapore. The European newcomers, all brand new members of EFTTA, are: Madiks (from Bulgaria), Clee (France), CYL Artesano (Spain), I Cross Fly Fishing (Sweden), ZFishing (Czech Republic) and Gaby Fish Pillows (Poland).
Some 75% of floorspace for Amsterdam had been sold by the close of EFTTEX 2017 and a further 1,000sqm has been sold since the floorplan was opened to the trade in mid-November.
EFTTA General Manager Janet Doyle confirmed that Rapala has booked a 136sqm space for 2018. “We are sorry to be losing Westin, but we hope to welcome them back at some point in the future,” she added.
“As of Tuesday this week, we have 1,230sqm left to sell, compared to 1,087sqm this time last year. Last year the floorplan was opened to the trade in early October, whereas this year it was opened in mid-November.”
EFTTEX 2018 has strong exhibitor numbers from France (12), the UK (13), Italy (14), Japan (14), the USA (19) and China (20).
“On the visitor front, we are opening our visitor pre-registration earlier than usual and concentrating on targeting visitors through local publications,” explained Janet. “Our exhibitor marketing is similar to previous years.”
