One of America’s leading tournament anglers has teamed up with a European lure manufacturer in a rare trans-Atlantic collaboration.
FLW Angler of the Year, Anthony Gagliardi, and the Black Flagg brand, based in Italy, announced their ‘Italian connection’ last week on the eve of the brand’s launch into the US.
Negotiations over the deal were kept under wraps before Gagliardi, an FLW Cup Champion, decided it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
“Some secret service actions were necessary to land the deal,” said a delighted Livio Travasoni, owner of RAW Fishing Industries, which produces the Black Flagg and T.O.W. (Tug of Warr) brands.
“It is very hard to get a professional deal with US bass anglers unless you have baits that suit their style of fishing, so Anthony’s confidence in our baits was key to the agreement.
“Besides his Italian heritage, Anthony’s accomplishments during 18 years of professional experience bring a lot to the brand. His finesse fishing strengths will work great with our radical soft plastic designs.”
RAW’s US business will be handled by Clifford Wiedman and the launch is officially scheduled for January 2nd, although Travasoni says pre-bookings will be taken from next month. The initial target will be specific southern states.
Gagliardi, from Prosperity, South Carolina, has 24 top ten finishes and five tournament wins to his credit. He has amassed more than $2m in career earnings. He will display the brand on his clothing and fishing boat.
