Big Rock Sports, one of North America’s biggest suppliers of fishing tackle, has unveiled plans for a 100,000sqft distribution centre in Reno, Nevada.
Considered the distribution hub of the west, Reno is strategically located among the 11 western states and will give Big Rock two-day delivery to most of its customers in the region.
The company is scheduled to start shipping from its new base by the end of the year. “This new distribution centre represents a major investment in the future of our company and customers,” said Andy Melville, President of Big Rock Sports. “It shows our commitment to improving and simplifying how customers do business with us.”
Big Rock will relocate product volume from its Fresno, California and Clackamas, Oregon distribution centres to Reno. It will continue to serve the Northwest with its existing sales team from a new office it plans to open in Clackamas.
Opening the Reno facility is the final phase of a plan that Big Rock has been working on for a number of years – to serve its U.S. customers from three site: East, Central and West.
Melville added that the new three distribution centre footprint gives Big Rock Sports national coverage and two-day or less delivery time to the majority of its customers.
• Big Rock Sports has announced that it is no longer pursuing the acquisition of one of its rivals, Maurice Sporting Goods. US-based trade magazine, Fishing Tackle Retailer (FTR), has reported that the news was announced late last month in a letter to its vendors. Big Rock, owned by Peak Global Holdings, said that the purchase would no longer be in the best interest of the company.
