The 2016 Bassmaster Champion, Edwin Evers, has paid tribute to his eyewear following his thrilling last-day victory on the Lake O’ Grand Cherokees earlier this month.
Evers took bass fishing’s ultimate prize at his 13th attempt when he brought a tournament-winning 29lb 7oz to the scales on the final day. The key, he said, was spotting logs that were holding fish well ahead of the boat.
“As always, my Wiley X sunglasses were a huge part of my win,” he explained. “The distance I was seeing the logs from was crucial to getting the fish to bite. They were very spooky so keeping my distance was really important.”
Evers’ final day limit was one of the best in Classic history and overhauled a lead of 6lb after day two held by fellow Oklahoman and good friend, Jason Christie.
“Edwin has been an important member of our sponsored pro angler team for many years and we have always had complete confidence in him as a fisherman and ambassador for our brand,” said Wiley X Co-Owner, Myles Freeman Jr. “We always knew that this day would come and we are proud to see Edwin get this much deserved recognition.
“We are equally proud that he has worn our glasses for so long and continues to rely on them every time he takes to the water.”
Unlike the leaders, who opted to stay with what had worked for them on the first two days of the Classic, Evers moved up the Elk River where he found a great deal of fish had made their way. Using his favourite pair of polarised WX Gravity sunglasses, he was able to spot and catch his final limit which averaged nearly 6lb.
Evers and other top professional anglers count on Wiley X sunglasses for their ability to ‘read the water’ in a wide range of conditions. In addition to providing clear, distraction-free vision that enhances any fishing technique, Wiley X shades deliver protection against a variety dangers that can be encountered on the water.
