The saying that the best ideas are the simple ones certainly applies to the Bait Sack Lure Protector, a new product from Californian company, Cal Coast Fishing.
The Bait Sack is a vinyl pouch that keeps hooks from snagging up when not being used. The bait is dropped into the sack, which is then clipped to the rod. A line catch keeps the bait in place.
Fast, easy and secure, the sack can be opened with one hand and accommodates everything from a small crankbait to a large swimbait. It comes with two different-sized rod clips so can be used with almost any rod.
“It is perfect for fishing from a boat, kayak, float tube and from the shore,” says Dave Romanus, of Cal Coast Fishing. “It delivers complete organisation and safety.
“It overcomes all the hassle associated with transportation and storage as well as hooks getting caught in other rods or, worse still, in your finger. Traditional Velcro wraps are difficult and clumsy to use in comparison.”
The Bait Sack comes in three sizes. Small is 3.75in by 5.25in and is recommended for crankbaits, top-water lures, spoons, jerkbaits and jigs. The medium version measures 4.5in by 7.5in and is ideal for small to medium umbrella rigs and swimbaits, plus large crankbaits and top-water baits. The largest sack is 5.25im by 9.5in and will accommodate large umbrella rigs and swimbaits, as well as XL top-water lures and crankbaits.
