Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO), which made its EFTTEX debut last year in Amsterdam, arrives in Brussels this week with a range of new products to introduce to the trade.
The Dallas, Texas, fly fishing brand left the Dutch capital as winner of the show’s best fly rod for its Axiom II Switch and will be hoping to repeat that performance when it unveils the Axiom II-X this time around.
The rod is designed for the intermediate to advanced fly angler seeking to maximise accuracy at distance. Based on the fast action of TFO’s renowned TiCrX, the model brings together the company’s highest modulus material and Axiom technology in an extremely powerful rod. Unlike other ‘stiff’ rods, the Axiom II-X delivers both the energy necessary for long casts and incredible tracking and recovery, says the company.
TFO’s patented Axiom technology embeds a double-helix of Kevlar within the satin, sky blue blank. The superior tensile strength of the Kevlar acts to buttress the rod’s carbon fibre matrix in compression. The outcome is that Axiom series fly rods stabilise faster and smoother, absorb shock better and comfortably tolerate over-loading.
The angler benefits because Axiom technology virtually eliminates the ability to over power the rod when casting. The bottom line, says TFO, is you won’t feel any mushiness. What you will feel is line ripping out of your hand as it launches.
The series features premium quality cork handles with burl accents and anodised aluminium, up-locking reel seats with carbon fibre inserts. All eight models feature alignment dots colour-coded by line weight, oversized Recoil stripping guides and ultra-lightweight chromium-impregnated stainless-steel snake guides.
The NXT Black Label Series is designed to make fly fishing simple and affordable. And because the series kits are the gold standard for fly-fishing schools and educational programmes across the US, TFO considers it to be the most important product it makes. Described by the company as ‘quite simply the highest performance-to-price ratio of any fly fishing outfit available’, the series is covered by TFO’s no-fault lifetime warranty.
The foundation of the NXT Black Label is the TFO Pro II medium-fast blank, which offers plenty of forgiveness for delicate presentations and cushioning light leaders, but loads easily for longer casts into the wind.
The rods are a handsome, matt black with half wells (5-weight) and full wells (8-weight) grips made from reconstituted cork. Aluminum oxide stripping guides, chromium-impregnated stainless-steel snake guides and an anodised aluminium up-locking reel seat equip the NXT Black Label series for fresh or saltwater.
NXT Black Label series of kits include a matching cast aluminium NXT BLK II (5-weight) or III (8-weight) size reel with and a stainless-steel alternating disc drag system. The reel comes loaded with 20lb Dacron backing and a premium weight-forward floating line with welded front loop and looped leader.
The NXT Black Label Reels aim to set a new benchmark for performance at an affordable price. The machine-cast aluminium is ported to reduce weight and features a machined handle drag knob and spool release for increased durability during rigorous use. The series utilises a stacked, alternating disc drag system that delivers plenty of drag pressure, with no start-up inertia. The three-reel series comes with easy LH/RH conversion and is perfect for trout, warm water species and even light saltwater applications.
TFO has taken the successful BVK series of reels, added a fully sealed drag system and hasn’t raised the price. The BVK SD series of reels features a fully-sealed drag system with easy LH/RH retrieve changes and minimal maintenance.
It has a fully-sealed Delrin® and stainless-steel drag system to keep the drag clean and functioning in rough and dirty environments. This new drag system provides a noticeably broader range of residence. The series is made from machined aluminium and anodised for durability and use in fresh or saltwater.
The super large arbor design gives the reels a huge line capacity and enables the angler to pick up line with incredible efficiency. The four reel series is ideal for everything from rainbow trout and bass, all the way to bonefish and baby tarpon.
