The ASA/Fred Hall Shows, a series of west coast consumer events, has been sold to a new partnership that includes its previous owner.
The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) says that it has agreed to sell the shows to a partnership that included Bart Hall, whose family had owned and managed the events for several decades, and Duncan McIntosh, of Duncan McIntosh Inc.
“The ASA and Bart Hall and his team have successfully produced west coast shows for many years,” said ASA President and CEO, Mike Nussman. “However, Bart wanted to bring his father’s legacy back into his family and the ASA’s board of directors agreed.
“We are delighted that the transition has gone so well and been so well received by the industry. We wish Bart, Duncan and General Manager Mike Lum all the best for the future.”
The sale was announced at the ASA’s Sporting Summit, in San Antonio, Texas – the largest gathering of industry representatives in the association’s history.
The ASA board also elected its new Executive Committee and three ex-officio members at the meeting. Along with Board Chairman, Dave Bulthuis (Vice President, Sales, Costa), and Immediate Past Chairman, Gregg Wollner (Executive Vice President, Rapala), the new officers are:
- Vice Chairman – Kirk Immens (President, Sportco Marketing);
- Secretary – Louis Chemi (Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Navico Recreational Marine Division);
- Treasurer – Donn Schaible (President, Wright & McGill); • At Large – Terry Pedersen (Vice President, Sales, Daiwa Corporation)
Also appointed to the board are the following ex-officio members: Ken Hammond (CEO, The Hammond Group), Peter Foley (President, Boone Bait Company) and Tom Rolls (Senior Director of Merchandising – Fishing/Powersports, Cabela’s).
During its annual dinner, the ASA recognised three people who have given their time and company resources in support of the industry.
Jeff Marble, President of Marble LLC, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award – the ASA’s highest accolade. The former Frabill President was honoured for his ‘extraordinary’ leadership and lifelong commitment to recreational fishing and the sport fishing industry.
Gary Zurn, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Big Rock Sports, accepted the Future Fishing Award. He has provided considerable support to the ASA and the industry in helping to gather retail data and other important information in maintaining access to saltwater fishing.
Clem Dippel, Senior Consultant at Fishing Tackle Retailer, was presented with Outstanding Industry Leader Award. Founder and Publisher of the recreational fishing trade magazine, Dippel has devoted more than 50 years of service to the industry, always keeping the needs of the retail sector in mind.
A veteran of more than 50 industry trade shows, he has served on the board of directors of numerous committees, lending his knowledge and expertise.
