Appointments at DAM, Thomas & Thomas, Fulling Mill and Shimano North America

Experienced European product manager Robert Valkeneer has taken on a new role at DAM, the Svendsen Sport brand.
Formerly with Pure Fishing, Valkeneer joined DAM in 2016 as Product Manager with special responsibility for Quick reels and has now been promoted to the role of Head of Product Development at the German company.
He is head of a department that also includes product managers Lucas van der Geest and Max Miederer. He retains responsibility for Quick reels.
Valkeneer was Brand Product Manager at Penn for four years and Senior Product Manager for Pure Fishing for more than two years.
• Thomas & Thomas has added Andy Stone to its staff in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The former Orvis rod builder has joined the high-end rod maker as VP of Manufacturing.
Stone spent half of his 30 years at Orvis as part of the research and development and rod design teams. At Thomas & Thomas he is responsible for managing all parts of the manufacturing process, including process improvements, research and development projects and technical support.
“Andy’s experience will be key in improving our flow of production and manufacturing processes,” said CEO Neville Orsmond. “His management style and meticulous approach will be pivotal in our future growth and success.”
Referring to the company’s installation of new machinery throughout the factory in the past year, Stone said: “It’s amazing to see the increased volume of rod parts turning into rods people will eventually own.”
• Shimano North America Fishing has appointed Robert ‘Brian’ Dufek as its Regional Sales Manager/Southeast Salt.
He brings 25 years of sales experience in the industry during his time as a sales rep and in regional management roles. He is active within the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) and the Northeast Florida Marlin Association.
Chris Brondell, Shimano Assistant Vice President/Sales, said: “Brian is well aware of the importance of the saltwater fishing market to Shimano and we know he can contribute to our efforts and success within the territory right away.”
• Globetrotting angler and guide Mark Taylor has been appointed as the sales rep for UK-based fishing flies manufacturer, Fulling Mill, in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Taylor has been instructing, guiding and running lodges professionally since 1998. Born and raised in South Africa, he cut his teeth on his home waters for trout and yellowfish while working in Dullstroom with Mavungana Fyfishing.
In 2008 he travelled to work in the UK with Farlows of Pall Mall, London, before guiding in Norway for Atlantic salmon and Argentina and the Rio Gallegos for sea-run brown trout.
