International sales at the UK’s largest fishing tackle retailer now accounts for nearly a quarter of its online revenue with shipments going to 49 different countries.
Angling Direct told investors this morning that it expects to report revenue for 2018 increasing by 38.9% to £42m (£30.24m) compared to the previous year when it releases its results in May. This includes a 98% growth in international online sales to £4.66m.
It added that this significant progress in exports has been supported by the launch of the group’s German, Netherlands and French websites which all went live last year. Germany was the biggest international customer market, with 3.6% of online sales, followed by Russia (3.5%) and France (2.1%). Online sales overall grew to £22.26m, an increase of 30.3%.
It said: “The Board is delighted with the international reach that the company now has and also that the business has been structured in preparation for Brexit, given that the very high percentage of stock comes from the Far East. Inventory numbers in general are good and the business does not foresee any disruption to supply throughout the next few months, regardless of any Brexit outcome.”
In-store sales were up 50% to £17.9m, representing a like-for-like increase of 6.2%. During the year it opened three new outlets, taking its total number of stores to 24.
Angling Direct also reported a record e-commerce Black Friday week performance with sales up 56% to £1.30m, during which it attracted 4,870 new customers. Of those 18% have already made further purchases, illustrating its ability to quickly build brand loyalty.
It added: “The group has entered its new financial year in a strong position to grow both organically and by acquisition and the Board remains confident that Angling Direct will achieve its targets for the year.”
