As a four-time winner of the freshwater rods category at ICAST, and the brand used by Boyd Duckett to win the Bassmaster Classic in 2007, Airrus Rods needs little introduction.
The company, which began life in the US but is now Italian-owned, prides itself on continuing to push the boundaries of technology. Its aim is to produce rods that make a recognisable difference in performance while delivering a high degree of practicality.
Working to that concept, and following the success of its Micropuls series, Airrus has now launched the Micropuls X2, a four-rod range of tournament models that it considers as ‘the most reactive two-piece rods on the planet’.
“These rods were originally built for the Asian market and we sell them in Europe too,” explained Airrus Vice President, Francesco Di Bene. “Eventually we will also introduce them to the US. We use our Radial Matrix Multimodulus blanks, which are incredible for sensitivity, reliability and power.”
The rod blanks are equipped with custom Oxlite Guides supplied by Kigan, the Japanese rod components manufacturer with a factory in Korea.
“We have started a very close relationship with Kigan,” added Di Bene. “They make fantastic products and we are very happy with its innovative ideas and over-the-top quality.”
The range comprises three spinning rods and a casting rod. The spinning rods are a 6½ ft, extra fast action for lure weights of 3/16oz to 3/4oz and lines of 12lb to 25lb; a 6½ ft, medium fast action for lure weights of 3/8oz to 3/4oz and 8lb to 17lb lines; and a 7ft fast action for lure weights of 1/2oz to 1½ oz and 10lb to 30lb lines.
