Airrus introduces ‘unconventional’ X-Entity series

A design process described as ‘unconventional’ was used in the development of the Airrus X-Entity.

The new X-Entity series of rods from the award-winning Airrus brand use a design process described by the manufacturer as ‘unconventional’.

The rods are based on what Airrus says is the first oversized blank in the rod industry. The lightweight blank, called AOS, uses different carbon fibre blends to increase torsion strength and compression resistance.

A secondary effect of the large diameter blank, say the rod’s developers, is to improve reaction speed and hook setting efficiency.

“The rod was developed with two main goals,” explains Airrus. “The first was to create an extremely powerful structure. This was achieved by using the same quantity of carbon fibre material but in a dramatically increased diameter. This produces a lightweight structure but with improved flex strength.

“A secondary effect of this design process is what we call IME, or integrated megaphone effect, which creates a faster feel through the rod. This is the most advanced rod we have ever made.”

Airrus has also incorporated what it calls a V-Torsion solid tip. The tip is made from S2 fibre, which is very hard wearing and which provides high shock resistance and low thermal expansion. It also improves casting and provides extreme sensitivity when fishing among rocks and other underwater structures, adds the manufacturer.

The one-piece X-Entity is available in both spinning (two models) and casting (four models) versions.

Airrus won four ICAST awards in nine years between 1998 and 2007 as a US company, but is now under Italian ownership.
