U.S. reel manufacturer, Accurate, has added a pair of new two-speed lever drag models to its well-known Valiant series.
Then BV2-800 (standard) and the BV2-800N (narrow) are designed for offshore trolling and livebait fishing with 80lb test braid and have the tough construction qualities necessary for catching tuna, striped marlin, sailfish and similar hard-fighting predators.
Despite the reels’ strength and rigidity, they are lighter and more compact that any other reels in their class, says the Corona, California, company.
The curved aluminium frames are designed to deliver the structural integrity of reels twice the size. And the non-flexing frame and sideplates, while thinner than those of other lever drag models, will withstand high levels of stress and torque.
Housed within and protected by this strong, corrosion-resistant exterior is Accurate’s patented TwinDrag® system – engineered to deliver up to 36lb of pressure for putting the brakes on powerful saltwater species.
Precision-cut, stainless steel gears mesh together to gain line on stubborn game fish, while seven shielded/sealed Class 5 ABEX bearings and one ARB bearing ensure smooth, reliable operation.
The BV2-800 holds 800 yards of 80lb braid, while the BV2-800N holds 600 yards of 80lb braid. Both models feature Accurate’s DirecShift™, which allows switching back and forth between a high-speed 5:1 retrieve and a winch-like 2.2:1 gear ratio with the touch of a button. Line retrieval in high gear is 47 inches and in low gear 21 inches.
Additional features include a ‘power handle’ for comfortable, effective cranking – even in wet and slimy conditions – plus a new easy-find ‘Cam Stop’ with a secure indent in the drag cam that prevents the angler from going too far into full drag during the heat of battle.
